After the election of office bearers, the meeting heard reports from the local groups who attended. Some of their reports, especially from Northern Queensland were most disturbing, whilst other groups reported success in stopping Coal Seam Gas Mining in their area.
At Gladstone, the meeting heard of the Queensland Governments plans for an export terminal maybe the biggest in the world. Queensland would become the largest exporter of carbon on the planet.
From coal mines near Gloucester gobbling up the landscape, to civil disobedience and non-cooperation at Tara, the present 'coal face '(excuse the pun) of the campaign.
On Saturday night delegates were treated to a fine dinner and entertainment to help ease the intensity.
On Sunday there were workshops focusing on various strategies and other methods do counter the coal seam gas threat. All up it was a very productive weekend.
Coal Seam Gas: An Insidious process
Jeremy Buckingham Greens NSW MP attended the conference (see video) .
Jeremy described coal seam gas mining as an insidious process. He was amazed to see the wide range of innovative strategies and which local groups are implementing to stop CSG. Jeremy said he will work hard at bringing the CSG issue to the parliament and obtaining a full moratorium and a full royal commission into coal seam gas mining.
