Agnels Beach East Ballina
The annual Keep Australia Beautiful Clean Beach Challenge Awards breakfast was held this morning at Sydney's Taronga Park. Councillor Jeff Johnson was there to represent Ballina Shire Council, and Jeff accepted the State "Environmental Protection Award" on behalf of Angels Beach, East Ballina, the 2008 winning beach in this category.Angels Beach Dunecare President, Lee Andresen, said ..."For so long we've looked forward to getting this unique recognition for the ecological restoration achieved on Angels Beach. We've earned two previous State Awards - both for 'Community Action' - which were much valued and are proudly on display. But this one is the most gratifying of all - it symbolises the culmination of our environmental rehabilitation efforts, the real focus of 20 years hard work" "Getting this Award is a tribute to Dunecare's founders and to the local community of volunteers who've worked to restore the forests and stabilise the dunes of our beach since work began in 1998" Lee said "It's their award, because they each earned it - together with all the other helpers and supporters, including local schools, scouts and guides, surfers, Jali LALC, the Numbahjing traditional custodians, EnviTE and Ballina Shire Council" "Angels Beach Dunecare celebrates its 20th Birthday next year" Lee said, "and we'll celebrate it at the site where this Award is to be displayed - next to the others at the 'Jindi Wahla' Reconciliation Tunnel at Black Head" |
