The Byron Ballina Greens are advising Green voters to VOTE 1 JOHN BAILEY then decide their own preferences for the Lower House when they vote on Saturday 24 March at the NSW State elections. ‘There was no way we could put a strong recommendation for the Labor Government,’ said John Bailey the Greens candidate. ‘Not with their expansion of the climate-damaging coal industry; not with their failure to properly fund pre-schools, not with their removal of our train; the run down of our public schools; the broken promises of better health services. Aside from that, how can you preference a government that allows children’s teeth to rot just because their parents cannot afford private dental care?’ The local Greens group also discarded a preference for the Nationals. ‘A vote for Don Page is a vote for the Debnam-led disaster. The National-Liberals have no effective policies on climate change. Slashes to public services would be felt acutely in the Ballina electorate with its high unemployment and high percentage of single parent families, with its lack of youth services and its aged population. Anyway, how can you preference a candidate whose coalition wants to imprison 10 year old children?’ ‘We are giving Greens voters a choice. They can either vote 1 for the Greens candidate John Bailey and leave it at that, or they can continue preferencing the other candidates as they see fit.’ Some Green groups in other electorates have decided to preference Labor, however none are going to preference the National-Liberal opposition.
