Tickets for the event are available at bookshops in most Northern Rivers towns for $12 and $10 for a concession. He was last in Byron in September 2005, and remembers the visit well. "Byron and the hinterland has a unique creative energy and relationship with the environment," Senator Brown said, "I look forward to returning to the town that turned the tide for Recherche Bay ." During Senator Brown's last visit, a suggestion from the floor produced a solution that eventually saved the environmentally and cultually precious Recherche Bay in Tasmania from being woodchipped by Gunns through a private purchase. Gunns recently withdrew its high profile writ against Senator Brown and other high profile activists in the Gunns 20. Although the company continues to pursue 15 less well known activists, the withdrawal marks a significant victory in the campaign against the world's largest hardwood woodchip company. Brown was launched to prominence, and parliament after his victory to save the Franklin River in Tasmania , two decades ago. Fresh from a smash hit season at the Woodford and Melbourne Comedy Festivals with the skit "Me and Mr Brown", Senator Bob Brown has recently been leavening his politics with a little humour. He will be in Byron to speak about the urgency of action on energy matters, primarily replacing mining of coal and uranium with renewable energy. His time as an Australian Senator has given him a depth of insight into the workings of the Australian government.
