In the Ballina and Lismore electorates, the Greens candidates topped
the Labor candidates for the first time, putting Ballina candidate Simon
Richardson and Lismore candidate Sue Stock in second place. In the seat of
Ballina, The Greens primary vote at around 23% , was twice that of the
Labor candidate . In contrast to other seats The national candidate Don
Page only achieved a 0.6% swing in his favour.
Jan Barham Elected to Legislative Council
On Monday Simon Richardson said,
Firstly, I'd like to thank everyone for all their efforts, their words of support and positive thoughts- it has been an amazing experience for me personally and I've learnt a tremendous amount. Thanks again everyone.
we have already achieved some great milestones.
* We cracked the 20% mark for the first time- currently just under 22% (this is especially pleasing as Karin Kolbe polled just over 5%, and most of these would have gone to us if she hadn't run- 25% was clearly on the cards!
* We passed the ALP and, by a massive margin, have become the clear 2nd party, again a first.
* We won 5 booths in Byron, compared to 2 last time
* We won even more booths in our Upper House vote
* The Coalition received a 16% swing Statewide, though only around 1-2% here.
* Jan Barham is a Member of the Legislative Council- you ripper!
