Big swing to the Greens in Penrith by-election

On Saturday the 19th of June, Greens from all across NSW made their way to Penrith to assist Suzie Wright and the Nepean Greens in the Penrith by-election.

Suzie and the Greens polled 12.1 per cent, a fantastic result in Sydney's west. An even more encouraging sign for the upcoming state and federal elections is that the Greens outpolled Labor in four of the lower Blue Mountains booths.

The recent federal poll showing the Greens at 16 percent now looks like a trend. The Greens polled 5 percent at the last State election. This result is wonderful, a 250 percent increase in the Greens vote.

According to ABC election analyst Antony Green “the result for the Greens in Penrith opens another front that Labor has to defend... Were the Greens to repeat these figures at a state election, both Balmain and Marrickville would be won by the Greens. Labor would also be forced into third place in both Blue Mountains and Coogee, though the Liberal Party would probably win both seats.”

Congratulations Suzie and thanks to everyone for making the day a great success!
