Its time to end the corruption
For the past decade The Greens have worked to ban corporate donations to
political parties. The Greens refuse to take donations from developers or
big business.
Everyone knows that developers who donate to political parties expect
something in return.
The NSW Labor government, right up to Premier Iemma and Planning Minister
Frank Sartor, is embroiled in the current donations scandal.
It is time to end the corrupting influence of political donations on our democracy. democracy4sale
The Greens are calling for a Royal Commission into the donations culture.

Greens MP Lee Rhiannon says the NSW Upper House Inquiry into Political Donations, which begins hearings today, must take the bold step of recommending a ban on corporate donations and a cap on party election spending to clean up NSW politics.
“I urge members on the donations inquiry to seize the opportunity. This inquiry is perfectly timed to provide a road map for electoral funding reform in NSW,” Ms Rhiannon said.
“Premier Iemma’s donations plan does nothing to stem the flow of donations, allowing ‘business as usual’ for the major parties and the resulting potential for corruption.
“Opposition Leader Barry O’Farrell is also refusing to support a ban on corporate donations.
“I urge that members of the inquiry put aside their sectional party interests and work together on an election funding model that will restore public confidence.
“At the very least, this inquiry should recommend a ban on developer donations, otherwise donation scandals will continue to haunt the Iemma government.
“The Greens’ submission to the inquiry points to Canada as a successful model of electoral funding reform.
“Since 2004 Canada has only allowed political donations from individuals, not big organisations or business.
“Canadian political parties receive approximately three times the public funding of political parties in Australia, removing the unhealthy reliance on corporate donations.
