Tweed Group Lodges Federal Court Injunction to Stop repco rally

Tweed Groups have lodged a federal court injunction in a last minute bid to halt the Repco Rally in the Tweed shire.
A representative of a group opposed to the rally confirmed yesterday that a Sydney-based Senior Counsel had been appointed and would argue the rally should be stopped because it was in breach of the Environmental Protection and Biological Conservation Act.

Local Greens Tweed Councillor Katie Milne has stated" I warn people to not rely on this injunction though and to still be ready take up their right to protest against this military style, enforced, 'extreme sports' event, so that one day soon, enough voices will be heard to touch the hearts of those in power, to help them recognise the incredible beauty and profound nature of this Caldera."

Press release from Katie Milne Greens Councillor in tweed shire Council

A code of conduct complaint has been lodged by all councillors against myself for releasing the Council's assessment of the Repco Rally reports.

These reports were available from 7th July, not released in the July meeting, but now released in the August meeting. How could anyone therefore think this report is classified "not publically available" as described by our media policy if the report is now on the website???This is crazy!  They should have released it in July,...... and I'm the one in trouble? It seems the entrenched culture of secrecy is stronger than ever

Councillors also refused at the last meeting to allow me to even table the two new independent ecological reports by Mark Graham and Dr Stephen Ambrose.  So much for transperency or wanting to hear two sides of the story.

This C of C Review has been delayed due to the possible overlap of ............................the court case !!!!

Just got back from Sydney.  Injunction is the hip topic, Lodged, Filed and Served on the Rally oganisers today!
The hearing is likely to be this Thursday so we will know pretty fast.

I warn people to not rely on this injunction though and to still be ready take up their right to  protest against this military style, enforced, 'extreme sports' event, so that one day soon, enough voices will be heard to touch the hearts of those in power, to help them recognise the incredible beauty and profound nature of this Caldera.

Our attitudes towards our responsibility for this internationally significant environment must be updated.   The daily wildlife carnage on the roads and from our subdivisions must be stopped.  People must slow down.  Developers must be pulled into line.   No government should be elected without demonstrating a complete committment and a clearly articulated policy for public participation and environmental recovery.

These are our fundamental rights and we have to be willing to stand up for these changes or they just won't happen.

Regards
Clr Katie Milne
